_________________________________________________

Here I am going to give a general analysis of a ritual and how it might be conducted. It started with splitting the ritual into segments, then writing out how they are performed and questions that I am prompted to write. Then answering the questions using qabbalistic knowledge with a bit of “intuition” thrown in as well. After all is done you then re-read it all and check it actually answers the questions and meditate on it until it is properly understood and known. In particular you might meditate on certain symbols or paths involved in the ritual, for example, on the symbol of the pentagram in this case, or on the Hebrew letters/paths that are involved. In this case Path 19 primarily. For the general person, no doubt this will look like a load of rambling babble, and me making random assumptions on things. Perhaps it is, but the assumptions are primarily based on qabbalah, upon which many western rituals are based and so we can conclude that the rituals purposes can be found therein. But really if it is only rambling babble it is not much my concern, for it has given me results. It is up to you all as to what it is.

QCL

First I see myself growing larger, filling the whole universe with KETHER above my head, my feet on the earth.
I pull down the light of KETHER to my forehead and pronounce ATAH (unto thee)
Touch my sternum and pronounce MALKUTH (The Kingdom)
See the vertical beam of white light go down my whole body and through the earth.
Touch right shoulder and pronounce VE-GEBURAH (The Power) while seeing a red orb on my shoulder and a white light expanding out right and connecting to the vertical line.
Touch left shoulder and pronounce VE-GEDULAH (The Glory) while seeing a blue orb on my shoulder and a white light expanding out to the left and to the vertical line of light.
Clasp hands/dagger in centre of chest and pronounce LE-OLAM (Unto the Ages) AMEN (Truth)

Questions:

Why am I growing larger? Why do I pull down white light to my forehead? Who is this “thee?” Why do I touch Tiphareth when saying MALKUTH? Why does the light go on forever? Why am I bringing CHESED and GEBURAH into this? Why do I clasp my hands in the centre of my chest? What importance does the cross of light have? Why is it white light? What do KETHER, MALKUTH, CHESED and GEBURAH represent? What is the purpose of the QCL in the beginning of the ritual?

Drawing of the Pentagrams

In the east I take my dagger & draw a flaming blue earth banishing pentagram. The same pentagram is drawn in all four cardinal corners. They are drawn in a clockwise direction, east, south, west, north.

Questions: Why are the pentagrams seen as blue? Why is the earth banishing pentagram used? Wouldn’t blue be for water, yet we’re using an earth pentagram...Why is the same pentagram used in all four quarters? Why four pentagrams? What precisely does the pentagram represent? Why do we go in a clockwise direction? Isn’t that the direction for invoking not banishing!

Connecting

A flaming line is drawn from one pentagram to the other, in the end forming a flaming circle studded with the pentagrams in four corners.

Questions: What colour is this flaming line? Flame automatically makes me think of fire and red, this seems most appropriate. But all readings I’ve really done don’t indicate any flame between the pentagrams, or they say to use a white or blue flame between the pentagrams…which is more correct? What does the circle represent here?

Charging the Pentagrams

In the east YHVH is used, in the south ADNI is used, in the west AHYH is used, in the north AGLA is used. Sign of the Enterer is formed at first, then sign of silence after the charging of each.

Questions: Why is YHVH used in the east? Why is ADNI used in the south? Why is AHYH used in the west, why is AGLA used in the north? Why are both the god-forms used HORUS ones? Does this have some kabbalistic significance here? What do they both represent? Why is a steel dagger used in this ritual?

Calling the Archangels

Sign of OSIRIS slain is formed. “Before me RAPHAEL, behind me GABRIEL, on my right hand MICHAEL, on my left hand URIEL” is stated.

Questions: Why are these angels used and not others? Why in those directions? Are these the elemental or sephirah angels? Are they any different from each other? Why does the statement go East, West, South, North (EWSN) instead of clockwise like the rest? Why is OSIRIS Slain formed?

Final Statement

The sign of OSIRIS slain is held. “For about me flames the pentagram” is said, seeing them blaze even brighter. The sign of OSIRIS risen is formed. “& within me shines the six rayed star” is said, seeing a hexagram flaming on the chest, upper portion red, lower portion blue.

Questions: Why are we stating that the pentagrams are flaming-isn’t this already known? Why is OSIRIS risen formed before the hexagram statement? What is the significance of the hexagram? Isn’t it and OSIRIS related to TIPHARETH? So now it has gone from GEBURAH to TIPHARETH? What’s the significance of TIPHARETH?

QCL

Why do we do this part again at the end? Does it have some other significance when used at the end rather than the beginning?

Answers:

QCL

I am growing larger because this represents the ascent up the path of the Silver Arrow. But I keep my feet on the earth, so that this ascent is allowed to influence the world and “lift all other’s up after me.” The act of being larger also signifies me being more like a god, and gives a greater feeling of power and authority for the rest of the ritual.
The “thee” is obviously some higher being, perhaps God? Or later looking at the ritual seems to signify the HGA. White light is a symbol of purity by most, so obviously this is a rite of purification and sanctification of the self to this higher being, aspiring to it, as signified by the growing larger and KETHER, whose Peak Experience is Union with God. KETHER is a state of no polarity, of stillness, or constant action. The state of Godhood. So one is rising up the middle pillar, sanctifying oneself and aspiring for godhood through this ritual! The forehead is the centre of the Ajna chakra, representing intuition and sight, so that we always keep the aspiration before our eyes. MALKUTH relates to the physical world and the four elements? What importance has this here? This is a spiritual ritual isn’t it!?
MALKUTH Peak Experience is Vision of the HGA, and we touch TIPHARETH when we say MALKUTH, it seems obvious that this Vision is what we are longing for! Not only that, but we can see TIPHARETH under KETHER most certainly as a representation of SHIN, and MALKUTH is the four elements, as represented by YHVH. So then the QCL is in attempt, calling down SHIN into YHVH, which gives us the divine name YHShVH…of which “there is no greater name under all the heavens to achieve salvation.” Not only this but we wish the divine light and guidance of the HGA to descend into our daily lives as well, thus we keep our feet on the earth, so that not only do our own lives live under it’s will and get better, but we can spread such harmony to others. This is all done in harmony, both Sephirah being non-polar, KETHER is Air and MALKUTH is Earth, so they are polar opposites as well. Maintaining a proper balance in the being of the person. CHESED and GEBURAH represent the highest manifestations of CHOCKMAH and BINAH the mind can properly comprehend. GEBURAH is called upon first because we are focusing on our ascent up the tree, as well as SHIN’s descent down. GEBURAH is the Summit of Power. It represents fire, the will, vitality and the aggressive forces this is good, but only when guided under the authority of CHESED later called on. CHESED is water and it’s Peak Experience is experiencing Universal Love. So again, you are aspiring to achieve that universal love for this “thee” (HGA). Another reason this order is done, is that the balance can be properly attained. Water when placed on a roaring flame will cause a beautiful hissing sound and create air element, that is balance found in the final intonation representative of TIPHARETH. However if we did it the other way this would not work properly, a match will not properly light when the water is already present. GEBURAH is also more physical whereas CHESED is more mental, so then we are again, representing our own ASCENT, rather than the SHIN’s DESCENT. The path between these two is assigned to the tarot card Strength, when upright it is spiritual strength, the holy warrior overcoming all odd’s which would rather have him not reach such heights, and boy how much strength it shall need of you! This 19th path also has connection’s to the Serpent and Lion. This Lion is the means of which the lead of man’s lower self is transmuted to the Gold of the Higher self. CHESED and GEBURAH lead into the manifestation of the Ruach, so this is also signifying the subjection of the Ruach to the Yechidah.
Why does the light go on forever? Because we long to follow in our will, forever, just like the final statement says “Forever, So be it!” This is not some shallow one time want, this is something we want FOREVER. It is the magicians aspiration, to do their WILL. The cross is seen as a symbol of harmony between the elements, it was identified as “the most firm receptacle of Celestial powers” as wrote Agrippa. Is this not just perfect? For here we have Air, Earth, Fire and Water sphere’s formed! We are invoking the celestial powers to sanctify us. It is only straight lines. Let God make straight our way, let us not walk crookedly anymore!

Drawing of the Pentagrams

Answers: The Pentagram represents that divine name Yeheshua and thus the dominion of the mind over the elements. Now that the Ruach has been offered as a suitable servant of the Holy Guardian Angel, the lower sephirah, particularly Malkuth are also made more subservient to it through the use of this symbol. The Pentagram can also be assigned by kabbalistic analysis down the tree, to Geburah. That is the major sephirah of the Will, it is assertive, dominating and fire element. However it is visualized in blue, this does not seem properly assigned at all to this symbol, it represents water or more specifically in this analysis Chesed. So then we are representing the Chesed form of Geburah, for we can place the tree in each sephirah if we desire, this makes it a balanced symbol, representing the assertive power and authority of the pentagram under the objective, purposeful forces of Chesed. However, why are we using the earth pentagram? If the colour used relates to water or Chesed? Simply because that is just the start, we are starting from the earth i.e. Malkuth. Again we are representing our aspiration, from earth we go to spirit. Earth also contains all the other three elements. Why four pentagrams? Again, 4 is the number of Chesed, so we are making quite sure that the assertive and dominating powers of Geburah are always kept under the balance of Chesed. Along with this, there are four elements aside from that fifth, which the magician represents when the circle is complete in the centre. So he is making sure that all of the being is submitted to this purpose and will of the Holy Guardian Angel. So then here I have given the reason (from my own assimilation of ideas however and by no means true to who may read this!) why the earth pentagram is used in all four quarters, simply this is not quite a simple elemental ritual, it is much more, and due to such, black as we would think suitable, or red, is NOT used as the colour of the pentagram. We go clockwise because…this is not a banishing ritual! We are not “banishing earth” , if we wanted to do that, then in the QCL we would not have kept our feet here! No. Instead we are invoking, we are invoking the pentagram, the HGA (to a lesser degree albeit) and the powers of Geburah and Chesed. Indeed we do banish undesirable things, but ONLY through the invocation of such things, creating a tension effect causing a natural disintegration and ejection of the undesirable particles and a natural defence against them. We are in effect banishing BY earth. Some also point to the sun as being a reason, this ritual seems to focus a lot on the HGA so this may be suitable, but I think the above explanation is more suitable than some mere “astrological reason” which is eaten up without a thought.

Connecting

A simple glance at the tree shall indicate that white is not the correct colour for this circle to be formed from. Chesed nor Geburah have a direct path to Kether, it makes little sense. So we are left with blue or red (the later being what naturally is brought to my mind through the word “flame”). First I must understand more what the circle represents. The circle represents the infinite, without end or beginning, it represents the perfected microcosm and macrocosm, and is identified with Kether, normally. Anyone standing in the centre (which the magician is at the end) is representative of the divine. Now, an extra word, Chesed is often identified as the “mini-Kether” because it is the first “real” sephirah that the mind can comprehend below the abyss, so is also given the number of Kether, 1, as well as 4. So then the circle here can be seen as representing Chesed, which fits in with our current progress which seems to indicate it is primarily concerned with influences of Geburah and Chesed. Now as we already know, blue is Chesed and red is Geburah. So what colour to use? Since we now know the symbol of Chesed is a circle as well, it would seem correct to use blue flames to link them…or would it? The pentagram has the colour of Chesed used, while it is more of Geburah (though this being purely geometric, as the pentagram represents the perfected Adam Kadmon and so all the sephirah balanced) while the circle we know, represents Chesed. So along these lines of thought, to keep in context with the rest of the ritual focused on balance and not extreme on any one point, it is actually more correct (it seems to me!) to use a burning red flame, to keep up this balance.

Charging the Pentagrams

For this part of my analysis it will be required that I analyse the individual letters, path associations and tarot cards so that we can get a proper view of the names invoked, these are: YHVH (east), ADNY (south), AHYH (west) and AGLA (north)

First thing of notice is they all contain 4 letters, there are four pentagrams, four elements etc. So again the above statements can apply here as well.

We are facing the east first, where the sun rises. YHVH represents the binding of the four elements, when we use the pentagram we are representing YHShVH so balancing this binding and keeping it under Will, balance is a key aspect of air, to the east. Of which we are purportedly facing Tiphareth at this point. But that aside, Yod represents the fist, it is what “gets things rolling” whereas Heh is important concerning the consciousness of the alchemical substance (in this case yourself) Vav represents the son, the path of redemption and the joy thereof, then we go back into Heh, a continual changing in consciousness ever up to bliss. It is the initial whirling setting things in motion, which relates to air as signified by Path 11(so thusly although it does not explicitly have an A in it, like the other three names invoked, it nonetheless represents similar powers to A).

Passing from the letter analysis we can go more specifically into the Path and tarot analysis as written two paragraphs up. Path 20 is between Tiphareth and Chesed. Another factor that must be taken into account is that there are two methods of transversing the tree, up or down. In this case we know we have already drawn the pentagrams (which by its colour is related to Chesed) so we can see that this is flowing DOWN the Path, from Chesed into Tiphareth. Such direction of flow must be taken into account if a good sense of what is happening is to be realized (as a general rule, the flow is normally DOWN the path’s however, so if one is not sure, go with that) So we have the whirling force being started, the Hermit shows the light urging one on further, the attainment is not yet done! H is connecting Chockmah and Tiphareth. Chockmah is The Father. The path here has a relation to the consciousness being worked upon, and indeed The Emperor is assigned here, one is taking up the authority of the Father, it is taken to do the Will. V is connecting Chockmah and Chesed. Now instead of the authority being taken up, morality and virtue are brought down into our being (into Chesed, that being “Love” which equalises justice, as well as being a “mini-Kether), so that we do not misuse our authority previously given to us. The Heirophant is described as our means to God, and lo, morality is key! Then we return back to the descending and reaffirmation of the authority now cast upon us, mediated by our morality and all set into motion under the Will of God. This is a rough look at YHVH, there is FAR much more in this name, I dare not say anymore on it! In the end we have God becoming conscious and manifesting the son, and expressing consciousness through that son.

Now to ADNY! Again A in this as in all represents the beginning whirlings, setting into action creation proper, it is the divine first truly revealing itself. It then moves into creating the act of union through rising up the being and generating the ‘dark night of the soul’ generating the one consciousness wanted.

AHYH-Represents practically the same thing as ADNY. There is an initial creation, which sets forth the knowledge of the consciousness which is then manifested through by God, and then the knowledge of the whole consciousness of God is also attained. Therefore it represents self realization followed by eventual God realization.

AGLA-We have again the first movement, which then moves into acceptance into ‘the hall of adepts’ followed by justice, all that has been done is then rewarded or punished accordingly. Then we finish with Aleph again, a new cycle of work has now begun, the person has reached adept-hood.

So then we have the whole cycle up to adept-hood symbolised in the LBRP. When we take it all together in order, we first have God realizing consciousness and manifesting it through us, this is the first initial act needed to step on the path of the great work. Then we have the work of ADNY which is the balancing of the self and eventual ‘dark night of the soul’ leading us to proper ultimate union within ourselves. This is then followed by the work of AHYH which is self-realization, which is then followed by God-realization. After such we are accepted into the hall of the adepts and polished, justice is given on us and we then enter a whole new cycle.

We are using the godforms of Horus which represent Geburah, as we have acknowledged, it is one of the main sephirah of concern in this ritual. The left foot is flung forward, the left finger touched to lips etc. This represents the same as the pentagram, the energies of Chesed flowing THROUGH the form of Geburah. All in this ritual is done in a state of balance. A steel dagger represents again the energies of Geburah being utilized, the will of the magician. The sign of the enterer is energising, the beginning of something, the sign of silence however is contracting and represents a finalisation.

Calling the Archangels

Osiris represents Tiphareth, the sphere of the adept. The fact that he is slain represents the death of the old consciousness and inevitable entering into a newer consciousness, it is a receptive state. The angels used are the arch-angels of the elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth respectively, in their appropriate quarters. Raphael is “Healing of God” which is appropriate as the first thing called upon, for you are now slain. RPAL: Here we have the collecting up of solar attributes particularly of our concern, life, as well as the attributes of mercury (which are intellectual) and using the foundation of Yesod for manifestation (which you may take as the subconscious in this case). It is then applied in a destructive manner which sets forth the creation of a levelling out affect on the being. In affect then Raphael represents ‘your sins be forgiven’…which happens to be akin to what Christ was said to say normally when he healed others. Then we invoke Gabriel, whose name means “Strength of God” Of course, if you have been healed then you must have gained some strength of God. More important though is the fact that you have begun the removal of sin, and thusly make him happy so God will, if it is appropriate do what is good for you, so you have his strength. GBRIAL. Again a point is made of acceptance into the adept-hood and the focus of the work all unto that one consciousness, the will and the subsequent balancing out of ‘karma’ or ‘sin.’ Next we go on to invoke Michael, whose name means “Like unto God”. Of course, after your sins are forgiven, then you could likely be called alike unto God. MIKAL. This represents mankind in state of sin, who go about sinning, but then God’s consciousness moves through them and urges them otherwise, in this case, to the expanding consciousness and love of God, through which the being is again lead into a state of balance. Finally we call on Uriel, whose name means “God’s Light.” VRIAL. Which represents the act of redemption due to the collection of the self all unto God and its resulting balancing out. Of note is that most angels names end in AL representing their balanced state and affect of generating it in others. It is done in the specific order E-W-S-N to maintain a state of balance. The active principles are called on first and then balanced by the passive principles, this is how creation was said to manifest, and so how this mini creation manifests as well (air and fire being active, water and earth being passive).

Final Statement

The statement energizes the present pentagrams and affirms their presence. The sign of Osiris risen is then formed, which represents the resurrection after the death, into the sphere of the adept proper and alive, after receiving the influx of energies from the angels. At the same time the second half of the statement is made concerning the hexagram. The hexagram represents again, Tiphareth. It represents the state of balance and union between the pairs of opposites. Of notice is that some, the more original ritual itself often said ‘before me shines the pentagram and behind me flames the six-rayed star’ which represents the portal grade 5=6, where one becomes an adept.

QCL

We do this again at the end, after the ritual is finished because we want to affirm that the guidance and aspiration remains throughout our daily life as well and is not something we just temporarily take up then leave. This acts as a sealing of the ritual, the being is made sure that it is in balance and energies are diffused properly throughout the sphere.

We must also look at the paths specifically attributed to it, of utmost importance are path 19, 20 and 22. Again here we have it, the uniting of opposites which leads to the movement of that one called ‘God’ which has a levelling affect on our being and the removal of ‘karma.’

So then the rituals whole focus is not on ‘banishing’ at all! In fact, it seems to be on the aspiration to the HGA and the resulting adept-hood. The ritual itself represents the whole act of this in a miniature version. Through this ritual the creative forces of Will and Imagination (Geburah and Chesed) are combined to culminate in a ‘son’, adept-hood. The self is made to co-operate as one being, anything that goes against such is removed through putrification and ejection from the sphere. All the while, with the use of the pentagram, keeping such ejections from returning. So then it is a banishing ritual, but not in the way most may think, and it happens to involve a fair bit of invocation as well. The whole ritual places emphasis on being balanced at all times where possible, which is said to be a key to proper rising. This is all of course, only according to Me.

So then let’s conclude again with the ritual description proper:

Perform the QCL

1. Facing east, breathe rhythmically for a few minutes calming your mind.
2. Rise up, keeping the feet on the earth, ever growing through space until you come to a brilliant white flame or sphere directly above your head, Kether.
3. Pull the light down to your forehead saying: “ATAH”
4. Touch the sternum, pointing down and say “MALKUTH”
5. See the light descend down to the feet and stimulate the Malkuth sephirah.
6. Bring the hand to the right shoulder and pronounce “Ve-Geburah”
7. Move the hand to the left shoulder and say “Ve-Gedulah” seeing a beam of white light go horizontally shoulder to shoulder.
8. Clasp hands at the chest and say “Le-olam, Amen”
9. Notice and feel the cross within you, if you are so inclined you may have it turn gold, and see a red rose erupting over your chest (of course you will need to look into such symbolism yourself)

Drawing and Charging the Pentagrams

1. Facing east still, take your dagger (or your thumb/sign of benediction) and begin to draw the earth banishing pentagram, from the lower left point, up to spirit, down to lower right point, up to upper left point, across to upper right point and finally down to lower left point again, (left hip, top of head, right hip, off left shoulder, off right shoulder, back to left hip)finishing exactly where you started, they should be brightly flaming in blue.
2. Then breathe in the name YHVH, having it fill your whole body.
3. Proceed into the Sign of the Enterer by lifting your palms up to your temples, palms down and thrusting both them and your left foot forward at once.
4. Vibrate YHVH feeling it expand out to the edges of the eastern universe (theoretical ‘edges’) and then returning to you, while the pentagram intensifies in brightness and pulsates.
5. Form the Sign of Silence by bringing your left foot back slightly, still forward of right, and bringing the left index finger to the lips.
6. Keeping the tool in the centre of the pentagram move to the next quarter (South in this case) visualizing a bright red flame following behind as you move the tool.
7. Repeat steps 1-7 with each appropriate quarter and God-name. (South-ADNI, West-AHIH, North-AGLA)
8. Return to the east, acknowledging the blue pentagrams flaming around you, all connected together by a blazing red circle.

Calling of the Arch-Angels

1. Take the form of Osiris Slain: Feet together, arms outstretched parallel to the floor, palms forward.
2. Say: “Before me Raphael” seeing a figure clothed in a yellow robe flecked with violet, holding a caduceus wand. Feel the wind from behind Raphael blow you.
3. Say: “Behind me Gabriel” seeing a figure in a blue robe flecked with orange, holding a silver cup and standing amidst a stream of flowing water. Feel the water rush over you.
4. Say: “On my right hand Michael” seeing a figure in a red robe flecked with green, holding a flaming sword, standing in a desert. Feel the heat burn up all impurities.
5. Say: “On my left hand Uriel” seeing a figure in a robe of black holding a pentacle or some wheat, standing in a farmland. Feel what’s left being stabilized.

Final Statement

1. Say: “For about me shines the pentagram” seeing them suddenly shining brighter and pulsating more powerfully with life.
2. Take on the form of Osiris risen: Cross the arms over the chest, right hand over left shoulder, left hand over right shoulder and bow the head slightly.
3. Say: “And within me flames the six rayed star” seeing a hexagram, with the top triangle in fire red and the bottom one in blue and like water.
4. Perform the QCL again.

One should do this ritual during a Saturn or Venus hour, considering those are both earthy planets and we are using the earth pentagram. They will give you different effects which should be recorded.

Thus concludes my analysis. Keep in mind, what I have given here is in no way complete, there is a lot more that can be looked into and SHOULD be looked into if you are to get the full benefits of the ritual. Do not take anything I say as true unless you yourself have tested it and found it to be true. What I have provided is only some scrap parts of my own analysis into the LBRP to provide some example of what should be done with all magical rituals if you wish to achieve their full potential benefits. It is of no purpose to you, if you yourself do not put some effort in and meditate on the meanings of the symbols and why they are used. If something I say does not click with you in this ritual, then discard it. The process is simple, write out the ritual, then ask questions as your mind begs you to. Take notice of all of them and write them down. Then proceed to answer them until you are sure they are answered properly. Do not rush it to try and get to the performance, this IS the magic. Look to qabbalah for your answers, this is not me saying the qabbalah knows all, but it is me saying that the creators of this ritual, knew something of qabbalah and no doubt based this ritual on qabbalah, so to understand what the creator intended it to do, you also must look into qabbalah. Things must be looked at in CONTEXT of their situation. It will require EFFORT, I don’t believe many will be bothered. It personally took me a month or so to complete this analysis properly to my acceptance where I could begin to get reliable results consistently. It has supposedly worked for others, it has definitely worked for me and if you do the analysis properly, it should also work for you. To those who do decide to take up the daunting task, I offer you my best wishes, might it be as beneficial to you as it was and is to me. It has supposedly worked for others, it has definitely worked for me and if you do the analysis properly, it should also work for you.

The general outline for this analysis was prompted by my reading of Joseph C. Lisiewski’s ‘Kabbalistic Handbook for the Practicing Magician.’ While the analysis given itself is my own one, he provides the outlines and much other information which is of much benefit, for people engaging in such, they certainly ought to get his book. I also personally for analysis purposes in western rituals (GD mostly) can recommend Garden of Pomegrenates, Three Books of Occult Philosophy, most of Levi’s works, The Secret and Invisible Rosicrucian Order and Waite’s: The Holy Kabbalah.
